Memory
Mac Pro systems support up to 16GB of 667MHz DDR2 fully buffered ECC RAM in eight FB-DIMM slots. Choose among a variety of memory amounts and configurations. [ Learn more ]
Because
accessing data from memory is much faster than accessing data from the
hard drive, the more memory your system has, the faster your system can
manipulate your data, resulting in greater application performance
especially when working with large files and memory-intensive
applications, such as graphics, audio, video and scientific
applications.
Mac Pro uses 667MHz DDR2 fully buffered ECC memory, a new
industry-standard memory technology that allows for more memory
capacity, higher speeds, and better reliability. To take full advantage
of the 256-bit wide memory architecture, four or more FB-DIMMs should
be installed in Mac Pro.
Please note: Apple created a more robust thermal specification for the
Mac Pro FB-DIMM heat sinks that provide more efficient cooling than
many other FB-DIMMs. These FB-DIMMs require less airflow to stay cool
and allow the internal fans to spin at slower speeds, improving system
acoustics. FB-DIMMs made by other manufacturers that do not include a
sufficient heat sink may cause the fans to run faster (and louder) or
the memory chips to run slower so as not to overheat.
Graphics
Choose from a selection of PCI Express graphics cards from both NVIDIA and ATI, each able to support up to two displays including at least one 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Display. Select a higher-performance card for more advanced graphics work, or add more than one card to power an array of displays simultaneously for visualization projects and large display walls.
Please note: Selecting the ATI Radeon X1900 XT or NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 may delay the shipment of your Mac Pro. [ Learn more ]
A
16-lane, double-wide PCI Express graphics interface supports the latest
graphics controllers for up to 4 GBps of data throughput. And by
supplying up to 300 watts of total power to all PCI Express slots, the
Mac Pro provides the headroom for high-performance, next-generation
graphics cards.
Choose among these graphics card options.
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT
For excellent all-around performance
in creative and productivity applications, choose one or more NVIDIA
GeForce 7300 GT. It features a 256MB frame buffer and both a
single-link DVI port and a dual-link DVI port, making it capable of
simultaneously supporting one 23-inch and one 30-inch Apple Cinema
Display.
ATI Radeon X1900 XT
If you’re working in motion graphics, animation, or 3D design and
visualization, the powerful ATI Radeon X1900 XT with 512MB of dedicated
GDDR3 memory may suit your needs perfectly. It offers two dual-link DVI
ports that can simultaneously support two 30-inch Apple Cinema HD
Displays for an incredibly large widescreen workspace.
NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500
If industrial-strength 3D design work,
stereo 3D visualization, or using two large 30-inch displays are on
your list of requirements, configure your Mac Pro with the NVIDIA
Quadro FX 4500. One of the most advanced graphics cards available, it
has an integrated stereo 3D port, so you can use stereo goggles for
stereo-in-a-window visualization applications. With two dual-link DVI
ports, you can connect two 30-inch Apple Cinema HD Displays. The Quadro
FX 4500 boasts 512MB of ultrafast GDDR3 SDRAM.
Dual Display Modes
Each graphics card offers built-in
dual-display support in two useful modes. Extended Desktop mode allows
users to work on two monitors at once for increased desktop real-estate
and increased productivity. Video mirroring is often useful when
presenting to groups, so the same image that you're seeing on your
local display also appears on a projector or auxiliary display. Simply
attach two monitors and the Mac OS will recognize your display. Use the
Displays System Preference to configure your monitors in either
extended desktop or mirrored desktop modes.
You can attach multiple Apple flat panels with DVI connectors to your
Mac Pro graphics card directly. If you have an Apple flat panel with an
ADC connector, the optional Apple DVI to ADC adapter is required (sold
separately).
Display
Visualize your creations on a beautiful Apple LCD display, featuring an anodized aluminum enclosure, FireWire and USB 2.0 ports, and an industry-standard DVI connector for a direct pure-digital connection. [ Learn more ]

Wireless
Configure your Mac Pro with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR and AirPort Extreme wireless to connect to peripherals and networks without wires.
Please note: Selecting an AirPort Extreme card may delay the shipment of your Mac Pro. [ Learn more ]
About Bluetooth 2.0+EDR (Enhanced Data Rate):
Bluetooth unplugs your digital peripherals and helps make cable clutter
a thing of the past. Bluetooth is an open specification for wireless
data transmission that operates on the globally available 2.4GHz radio
frequency. Bluetooth devices can communicate with each other within a
30-foot range.
Bluetooth devices include mice, keyboards, cell phones, headsets, PDAs,
and more. For example, you can use Apple's iSync application and
Bluetooth to easily synchronize your address book and calendar with
your mobile phone and your Palm powered PDA without even having to plug
them into the computer. Or you can use a wireless Apple keyboard and
mouse to keep you desktop clear of unsightly cables.
About AirPort Extreme
Use AirPort Extreme in your Mac Pro to join a wireless network, or
share your network connection wirelessly with another computer. You can
even stream music from iTunes to your stereo using an AirPort Express
base station.
AirPort Extreme is based on the 802.11g wireless standard and offers
data rates up to 54 megabits per second (Mbps) and range up to 150
feet. AirPort Extreme allows your AirPort Extreme-enabled Mac Pro to
communicate with local AirPort Extreme networks or with other Wi-Fi
certified 802.11b or 802.11g networks, including earlier versions of
Apple's AirPort Base Station.
Notes:
- Wireless Internet access requires a wireless-enabled computer, a
base station or other access point, and Internet access (fees may
apply). Some ISPs are not currently compatible with AirPort and AirPort
Extreme.
- Achieving data rates up to 54 Mbps requires that all users
have an AirPort Extreme-ready computer with an AirPort Extreme Card
installed and are communicating with an AirPort Extreme Base Station.
If a user with an AirPort-enabled computer or other Wi-Fi certified
802.11b product joins an AirPort Extreme wireless network, that user
will get up to 11 Mbps and AirPort Extreme users on the same wireless
network will get less than 54 Mbps. AirPort Extreme-enabled computers
that connect to an AirPort or other Wi-Fi certified 802.11b network
will achieve data rates up to 11 Mbps, the maximum allowed by an
802.11b wireless network. Actual speed will vary based on range,
connection rate, site conditions, size of network, and other factors.
